The amethyst is believed to impart spiritual wisdom and humility. It’s a powerful gemstone and makes a great addition to any type of jewellery.

• The name comes from the Greek “amethysts” meaning “not drunk” as it is known to ward off drunkenness.
• It is considered to be the stone of bishops because it symbolizes holiness and encourages celibacy.
• Amethyst is high on the scale for hardness and resisting scratches. So it can be worn on a daily basis.
• When it comes to colour, the amethyst that is a deep medium purple is top quality. The deeper colours are the rarest and more valuable with no visible flaws. Varieties are anywhere from very light to dark purple.
• Most amethysts that you find may be heat treated to deepen its colour so you should always ask.
• It’s important to avoid exposure to sunlight for long periods of time as it discolours the amethyst.
• Keep away from household cleaners and other solvents which will discolour.
• To clean use mild soap and a soft cloth or tooth brush.
• This gem is a favourite of royalty and has a long legacy of being one of the oldest gemstones used in jewellery.
• Many big Hollywood stars wore amethyst bejewelled jewellery.
